Eight characters, one life map
BaZi (八字) literally means "eight characters." Your date and time of birth produce four pairs of Chinese characters — four Pillars, each consisting of one Heavenly Stem (天干) and one Earthly Branch (地支). These eight characters form the complete BaZi chart.
The system is rooted in the Chinese calendar and the theory of the Five Elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water) in their Yin and Yang expressions. Each character carries an elemental identity. The relationships between them — which elements support, control, or deplete each other — create the texture of the chart. Ten-year Luck Cycles show how the chart's energy shifts over time.

Reading the report
Begin with the Day Master — your Heavenly Stem of the Day Pillar. Is it Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, or Water? Yin or Yang? This single character is the anchor of the entire reading. A strong Day Master thrives on different elements than a weak one.
Then look at the elemental balance. Does your chart have too much of one element and none of another? Missing elements are often what BaZi practitioners focus on first — they represent areas of life that require more conscious effort or external support.
The Luck Cycle in operation right now is equally important. A 10-year period that brings a favourable element can open doors; one that brings a clashing element calls for care. A BaZi practitioner can map these cycles onto specific domains: career, relationships, health, wealth.
